Learn all about this smash-hit West End musical based on the King of Pop and plan your MJ The Musical London trip
This thriller of a musical tells the story of Michael Jackson. It’s set in 1992, as he prepares to launch his iconic Dangerous World Tour, but also jumps back in time to show how he became a music legend.
That means we get to see a young Michael performing with his family in The Jackson Five, then launching his solo career, working with icons such as Berry Gordy and Quincy Jones, dealing with the pressures of fame, and constantly innovating in order to push his singing and dancing to the next level.
Best of all, we get incredible renditions of Jackson’s hits, including Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, I’ll Be There, Can You Feel It, Bad, Man in the Mirror, and of course Thriller. No wonder the show won four Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway. For sheer entertainment, you can’t beat it!

It’s a tough ask to play one of the greatest entertainers of all time, but the astonishing American actor Myles Frost really does conquer that challenge. He looks, sounds and dances just like MJ. He captures the late star’s combination of gentleness and ambition, popular performer and extraordinary artist.
Frost won a Tony Award when he originated the role on Broadway, and now leads the West End cast. The talented company also features Ashley Zhangazha (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical), Mitchell Zhangazha (Ain’t Too Proud), Philippa Stefani (On Your Feet!), Phebe Edwards (The Lion King), and Matt Mills (Dreamgirls).
The show is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon (Tony Awards for MJ The Musical and An American in Paris), with a book by Lynn Nottage (Pulitzer Prize for Sweat and Ruined) and spectacular designs by Derek McLane (Tony Award for Moulin Rouge!).

“Goodness can Myles Frost dance, capturing precisely Jackson’s sublime, peculiarly agitated grace, his limbs seemingly made from tensile liquid as he thrusts and coils, shimmers and spins, like a man made from air and light, dancing on water.” Read the full Telegraph review.

Definitely. This slick, spectacular, brilliantly staged show is worth seeing even if you’re not a hard-core Michael Jackson fan. Of course, if you are, this will be musical theatre heaven, packed with all of MJ’s hits and dance moves – plus his extraordinary life story.
The show is set in 1992, as Jackson plans his Dangerous World Tour, but it uses a framing device – a documentary-maker asking him questions – to also look back at his childhood in The Jackson Five, and how he became a ground-breaking solo artist who redefined pop music.
Head into central London and you’ll find the historic Prince Edward Theatre – the original home of Mamma Mia!, and later the venue for Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins and Ain’t Too Proud. Now this is the West End home of MJ The Musical. It’s the perfect place for this sensational show.
